Overview

We are searching for a Senior Corporate Development Specialist to join our client's team within the Office of the CEO. This role is pivotal in driving strategic growth initiatives, evaluating refinery and infrastructure projects, and identifying opportunities for value creation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in translating strategy into actionable business outcomes, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering innovation in a competitive market environment.

Responsibilities
Strategic Implementation
  • Translate corporate strategy into measurable operational initiatives with defined business outcomes and targets.

  • Facilitate the adoption of best practices in operations and service excellence.

Operational Efficiency
  • Evaluation and Delivery: Lead the evaluation and execution of major growth and commercial projects, ensuring effective Management of Change (MOC).

  • Infrastructure Projects: Serve as the primary focal point for refinery and infrastructure growth projects, including post-investment performance evaluations and audits.

  • Network Efficiency: Develop methodologies and KPIs to monitor supply and logistics network performance, identifying opportunities to optimize terminal cost-to-serve.

  • Competitive Intelligence: Maintain a comprehensive database of competitor activities to inform pricing and marketing strategies.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee regulatory reporting of uncommitted capacity at terminals in line with legislation.

Business Development & Growth
  • Identify and develop business cases for diversified revenue streams, including EV charging infrastructure, hydrogen initiatives, and renewable energy partnerships.

  • Coordinate input for macro-market developments such as deregulation, competitor M&A activity, and decarbonization strategies.

  • Evaluate underutilized assets for alternative commercial use, including leasing, divestment, or third-party integration.

Team Effectiveness
  • Promote the company’s values and contribute to team goals.

  • Implement continuous improvement methodologies and mentor teams to drive business excellence.

Financial Management
  • Manage budgets and monitor expenses to ensure alignment with approved financial plans.

Safety, Health, Quality, and Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and regulatory standards within the area of responsibility.

Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership and key partners.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a leadership role within strategy, investment appraisal, or pricing.

  • At least 5+ years of experience in the integrated downstream oil sector, with exposure to supply, operations, logistics, trading, or related value drivers.

  • Proven track record in commercial optimization, project implementation, and process improvement.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of value chain optimization, including crude selection, refinery constraints, product supply, logistics, and marketing.

  • In-depth knowledge of the Southern African oil supply, demand, and logistics landscape, as well as competitor activities.

  • Advanced financial evaluation and opportunity modeling skills, with the ability to interpret complex P&L drivers.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams in delivering commercial projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop actionable business models for "white space" opportunities.

  • Experience in leading large-scale technical or commercial transitions through Management of Change (MOC) processes.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex commercial cases to executive leadership.
