Overview
We are on the hunt for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of a strategic Enterprise Commercial Systems Integration Programme. This role is critical in ensuring the successful implementation of a new enterprise business platform that supports essential retail operations.
The successful candidate will oversee a complex business and technology IT programme involving multiple business units, enterprise applications, and third-party implementation partners. This position requires exceptional leadership, commercial acumen, and programme delivery expertise to manage business transformation, enterprise systems integration, and organisational change effectively.
This is a contract role based in Woodstock, within the Group IT/Project Delivery department, reporting to the IT Project Delivery Executive and IT Executive for Shared Services.
Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Governance
Lead the end-to-end delivery of a complex Enterprise Systems Integration Programme, from initiation to Hypercare and project closure.
Develop and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, resource plans, and delivery roadmaps.
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, issues, and dependencies.
Ensure compliance with PMO governance standards, project lifecycle methodology, and Stage Gate approvals.
Lead Steering Committee meetings, Executive Governance Forums, and Programme Reviews.
Oversee successful delivery across Discovery, Design, Build, Integration, Testing, Deployment, and Operational Readiness.
Enterprise Systems Integration
Manage the implementation of a complex enterprise business systems integration.
Coordinate multiple business and technology workstreams across the programme.
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architects, Technical Leads, and implementation partners.
Oversee data migration, systems integration, testing, deployment planning, and production readiness.
Ensure a seamless transition into Business-as-Usual operations.
Financial, Commercial & Vendor Management
Manage programme budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
Drive financial governance and expenditure management.
Oversee commercial relationships with implementation partners and third-party vendors.
Ensure contract performance, delivery milestones, and commercial obligations are met.
Support business case management, financial forecasting, and benefits realisation.
Executive Stakeholder Management
Build trusted relationships with Executive Leadership and senior business stakeholders.
Present programme updates to Executive Committees and Steering Committees.
Provide strategic advice and recommendations on programme delivery.
Manage stakeholder expectations and competing business priorities.
Facilitate executive decision-making throughout the programme lifecycle.
Reporting & Controls
Produce Executive dashboards and programme status reports.
Maintain RAID Logs, Decision Logs, and Action Registers.
Monitor project performance against schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
Escalate critical risks and issues in a timely manner.
Support PMO assurance reviews, governance, and audit activities.
Leadership
Lead multidisciplinary Business and IT delivery teams.
Coordinate Business Analysts, Architects, Developers, Test Managers, Change Managers, and external partners.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and delivery excellence.
Mentor project team members and promote PMO best practices.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Commerce, Business Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent Project Management certification (Essential).
Programme Management certification (e.g., MSP, PgMP) is advantageous.
Agile certification is a plus.
Experience
Minimum of 7+ years of experience managing complex Business and IT transformation programmes.
Proven track record of delivering enterprise-wide systems implementations from initiation to production deployment.
Expertise in complex enterprise systems integration, including multiple application and vendor integrations.
Strong experience in Financial, Commercial, Merchandising, or Retail business domains (Retail industry experience is highly advantageous).
Demonstrated ability to manage third-party implementation partners, system integrators, and software vendors.
Experience managing multi-million Rand project budgets, commercial governance, and financial reporting.
Proven ability to engage and influence Executive Leadership, C-Suite stakeholders, and technical delivery teams.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a structured PMO governance environment.
