As a Junior Attorney specializing in conveyancing, you will be responsible for overseeing specific aspects of conveyancing matters and will need to drive to clients for document signings, meetings, and updates—so ideally, the candidate will be based in or near Cape Town to easily attend these appointments.

Responsibilities

Client Interaction and Visits

  • Travel to clients in and around Cape Town to meet with them for document signings, providing legal advice, and answering any property-related queries they may have.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout the conveyancing process.

Conveyancing Support

  • Assist with managing the firm’s pipeline of residential and estate property transactions.

  • Ensure accurate preparation and review of property transaction documents, including deeds, transfer duty receipts, and sale agreements.

  • Conduct title searches, mortgage searches, and other necessary checks to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

  • Assist with the drafting of basic legal documents, transfer forms, and contracts under the guidance of senior attorneys.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with senior attorneys, senior transfer secretaries, and other team members to ensure that property transfers are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Support the senior team by updating and maintaining accurate records of property transactions.

  • Ensure that all files are kept up to date with relevant legal documentation and client communication.

Problem-Solving

  • Help identify and resolve any issues that arise during the conveyancing process, ensuring that clients are kept informed and any complications are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Assist in resolving discrepancies that may arise with title deeds, payments, or other transaction-related issues.

Client Communication

  • Provide clients with regular updates on the progress of their property transactions, particularly in relation to document signings and key milestones.

  • Draft and send reports, letters, and communication to clients regarding their property transactions under the supervision of senior staff.

Legal Research

  • Conduct legal research as needed to support ongoing transactions or resolve any issues in property matters.

  • Stay up to date with developments in property law and conveyancing procedures to ensure compliance.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Assist with preparing reports, maintaining client files, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is organized and easily accessible.

  • Ensure all deadlines for documents, payments, and other critical steps in the process are adhered to.

Qualifications

  • A qualified attorney with a focus on conveyancing or property law.

  • Strong interest in residential property law and conveyancing matters.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain legal terms and processes clearly to clients.

  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Highly organized with attention to detail.

  • Comfortable driving to client locations around Cape Town for meetings and document signings.

  • Ability to build rapport with clients and work collaboratively within a team.
