Join a dynamic team supporting the legal function of a growing global business. This role focuses on commercial legal matters, mining operations, and strategic legal support as the organisation develops a new greenfield chrome mining project in South Africa.
Based at Head Office in Sandton, with occasional travel to the Rustenburg mine site, this permanent opportunity offers the chance to play a meaningful role in a major project while working alongside an experienced legal and operational team.
Responsibilities
Provide expert legal advice and support on all aspects of commercial business and mining operations.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Manage legal risks and provide strategic guidance to the business during the development phase of the greenfield chrome project.
Oversee and manage legal matters related to mining operations, including regulatory compliance and permitting.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel to address complex legal issues.
Stay updated on legal developments in the mining and commodities sectors to ensure the organisation remains compliant and competitive.
Support the expansion of the legal function as the project progresses into full production.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or higher.
Must be a registered attorney.
Experience
Proven track record of working within a legal department.
At least 10 years of experience within the mining industry.
Minimum of 5 years in a department head or legal management role.
Industry Exposure
Extensive experience in the mining sector is required.
Familiarity with commodities such as Chrome, Diamonds, Gold, or Platinum is highly desirable.
