Overview
We’re hiring an experienced Scrum Master to join the IT division of a leading Insurance and Financial Services organisation. This Cape Town–based contract role plays a key role in enabling Agile delivery, supporting high-performing teams, and ensuring ways of working align with regulatory and governance standards. The ideal candidate brings strong Agile expertise and a proven track record of delivering in highly regulated environments.
Responsibilities
As a Scrum Master, your key responsibilities will include:
Agile Delivery & Team Enablement
Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
Coach teams on Agile principles, the Scrum framework, and best practices.
Ensure transparency and accuracy of Scrum artefacts, such as Product Backlogs, Sprint Backlogs, and Burndown Charts.
Promote continuous improvement through structured retrospectives and action tracking.
Foster a culture of psychological safety and collaboration within teams.
Stakeholder & Business Engagement
Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Development teams, and Architecture & QA teams.
Manage expectations between business and technical stakeholders.
Translate business priorities into actionable sprint deliverables.
Facilitate dependency management across multiple squads.
Delivery Governance
Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, internal governance frameworks, and risk/compliance standards.
Maintain comprehensive delivery documentation and reporting.
Support audits and compliance reviews.
Track and report on delivery metrics, including velocity, sprint predictability, and release burn-up/down.
Impediment Management
Proactively identify and remove delivery blockers.
Escalate risks and issues in a timely manner.
Conduct root cause analysis for recurring impediments.
Support change management initiatives.
Agile Maturity & Transformation
Contribute to enterprise Agile transformation initiatives.
Coach leadership and stakeholders on Agile methodologies and ways of working.
Participate in and contribute to the Agile community of practice.
Champion continuous learning and innovation.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Essential
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Scrum Master.
Proven experience in the Financial Services or Insurance industry.
Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum frameworks, SDLC, and DevOps practices.
Experience working in enterprise IT environments and multi-team/scaled Agile environments.
Proficiency in tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps (or similar).
Exceptional facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
Educational Background
A relevant IT or Business degree/diploma.
Scrum certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II), or SAFe Scrum Master (advantageous).
