Overview
We're hiring a highly skilled and experienced Commissioning Superintendent to join our client's team for a utility-scale solar plant project located in Middleburg, Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate all commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested, operational, and compliant with project specifications and safety standards. This role is critical to the successful delivery of solar PV arrays and associated substation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Plan, manage, and execute the commissioning program for the solar plant and substation works.
Oversee and verify functional and operational testing of solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, protection relays, and switchgear.
Coordinate pre-commissioning and energization activities, including inspections, system verification, and performance validation.
Supervise Medium Voltage (MV) switching operations, ensuring compliance with Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS).
Interface with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues during commissioning.
Manage commissioning documentation, including test reports, checklists, and punch lists.
Provide technical leadership and on-site supervision of commissioning teams and subcontractors.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and statutory requirements throughout commissioning activities.
Qualifications
Trade Test Certificate (Electrical).
Electrical Diploma or Degree (BTech or equivalent preferred).
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commissioning utility-scale solar plants and substation works.
Proven experience with ORHVS and MV switching operations.
Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, electrical balance of plant (eBoP), and grid interconnection requirements.

Certifications and Additional Requirements
Valid ORHVS certification.
MV switching authorization and experience.

Day-to-Day
Lead and supervise on-site commissioning activities, ensuring all systems are tested and operational.
Collaborate with contractors and stakeholders to address and resolve technical challenges.
Conduct inspections, system verifications, and performance validations.
Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation and reports.
Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
