Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic ERP Project Manager to lead a transformative ERP implementation initiative across multiple African markets. This role is pivotal in modernizing and standardizing operations within the downstream oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will oversee the end-to-end implementation process, ensuring seamless integration of complex business operations while navigating diverse regulatory and cultural landscapes. This is a 12-month contract position based in Dubai, UAE, with travel required across Africa.

Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Organization
  • Establish and lead the project organization structure, including team formation, role definition, and governance frameworks

  • Oversee the complete ERP implementation lifecycle: requirements gathering, system design, configuration, build, testing, training, deployment, and post-go-live support

  • Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and risk mitigation strategies

  • Provide direct oversight to subject matter expert teams across all business processes

Industry-Specific Implementation
  • Configure ERP systems to support downstream oil and gas operations, including:

    • Advanced fuel pricing mechanisms

    • Depot and terminal operations management

    • Transportation and delivery tracking

    • Station and retail outlet performance analytics

    • Wet stock and dry stock inventory reconciliation

  • African Market Specialization Address Africa-specific operational constraints, such as:

    • Multi-country tax regimes, fuel subsidies, and dynamic pricing structures

    • Currency fluctuations and foreign exchange management

    • Regulatory reporting compliance (e.g., IFRS, SyscoHada, French GAAP)

    • Terminal management and transportation infrastructure challenges

Multi-Country Harmonization
  • Lead process standardization and data harmonization across subsidiaries

  • Ensure seamless intercompany processes and consolidated reporting capabilities

  • Manage master data governance and statutory compliance across jurisdictions

Change Management & Knowledge Transfer
  • Design and execute change management strategies to ensure organizational readiness

  • Drive user adoption through training programs and continuous knowledge transfer

  • Build local capability and sustainable operational excellence

Stakeholder Management
  • Coordinate with external vendors, implementation partners, and internal teams

  • Manage relationships across IT, finance, logistics, retail, and procurement functions

  • Facilitate executive steering committee communications and decision-making

  • Align business objectives with technical implementation

Qualifications
  • Experience:

    • 10+ years of ERP project management experience

    • Minimum of 3 full-cycle ERP implementations as lead Project Manager

    • Mandatory experience in retail downstream oil and gas operations

  • Geographic Expertise:

    • Prior ERP implementation experience in companies with subsidiaries across multiple African countries

    • Understanding of African regulatory landscapes and operational challenges

  • Technical Competencies:

    • Proficiency in ERP platforms such as SAP S/4HANA or JD Edwards (JDE)

    • Expertise in business process mapping, master data management, and enterprise reporting

    • Experience with system integration, data migration, and post-implementation optimization

  • Professional Qualifications:

    • PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification preferred

  • Language Skills:

    • Bilingual in English and French (mandatory)

    • Trilingual in English, French, and Arabic (advantageous)

  • Attributes:

    • Strong leadership presence and ability to influence in matrix organizations

    • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability for diverse African markets

    • Willingness to travel extensively within Africa

Day-to-Day
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are met

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives

  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement mitigation strategies

  • Conduct training sessions and ensure knowledge transfer to local teams

  • Provide regular updates to the executive steering committee
