Overview
We're hiring a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Substation Supervisor to join our client's team on a utility-scale solar plant project located in Middleburg, Eastern Cape. This role is critical in overseeing the construction, commissioning, and operational readiness of the substation, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and project specifications.
Responsibilities
As the Electrical Substation Supervisor, your key responsibilities will include:
Supervising and coordinating substation installation, commissioning, and operational readiness.
Overseeing and participating in MV and HV switching operations.
Managing the testing and commissioning of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and switchgear.
Ensuring adherence to ORHVS (Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems) at all times.
Being willing to be appointed as the GMR 2.7 responsible person for the substation site.
Coordinating with project engineers, contractors, and utility representatives.
Maintaining accurate records of inspections, tests, and commissioning activities.
Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Trade Test Certificate (Electrical).
Electrical Diploma or Degree, or assessed as a competent person.
Proven experience in substation commissioning and operations.
Willingness and eligibility to be appointed as GMR 2.7.
Valid ORHVS certificate or willingness to redo the course.
Strong background in MV and HV systems and protection schemes.

Certifications and Additional Requirements
Valid ORHVS certificate or willingness to obtain.

Day-to-Day
On a typical day, you will:
Oversee the progress of substation construction and commissioning activities.
Conduct inspections and ensure all work adheres to project specifications and safety standards.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and utility representatives to resolve technical issues.
Perform and supervise MV and HV switching operations.
Maintain detailed records of all activities and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
