Overview
We’re partnering with our client to find an exceptional Head of Data to lead and shape their data strategy. This pivotal leadership role will ensure data is accurate, accessible, and meaningfully leveraged to drive performance and impact across the organisation.
The successful candidate will oversee data systems, analytics, and governance frameworks, enabling smarter, evidence-based decision-making across programmes, operations, marketing, and finance.
Responsibilities
As the Head of Data, your key responsibilities will include:
Data Strategy and Governance
Develop and implement a company-wide data strategy aligned with organisational goals.
Establish data governance frameworks, policies, and standards for data quality, integrity, and compliance (including POPIA).
Design data architecture and models for efficient collection, storage, and use of data.
Collaborate with the CTO to align data systems with overall IT infrastructure.
Analytics, Insights & Reporting
Develop dashboards, KPIs, and visualisations to translate organisational data into actionable insights.
Lead impact measurement frameworks and tools to assess programme performance and SME outcomes.
Provide management and board-level reports highlighting trends, funding performance, and growth metrics.
Use predictive analytics and scenario modelling to guide strategy and investment decisions.
Systems Architecture & Integration
Ensure business systems (CRM, ERP, project management, financial, and data platforms) are properly integrated.
Oversee configuration, maintenance, and enhancement of data systems.
Ensure strong data security, back-up, and disaster recovery processes in collaboration with the CTO and IT team.
Data Quality, Compliance & Literacy
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data through regular audits and validation routines.
Ensure compliance with POPIA, donor, and partner reporting standards.
Build data literacy and reporting capability across teams through coaching and tools.
Coordinate external evaluations and data audits.
Leadership & Team Management
Develop and maintain an effective departmental structure aligned with manpower plans.
Lead, train, and mentor staff to ensure performance excellence.
Promote engagement, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Uphold sound labour relations and HR-aligned practices.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
At least 7 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or information management.
Proven experience in leading a data or analytics team.
Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, Excel, CRM systems (e.g., Zoho/Salesforce), and data integration tools.
Experience in the development, social impact, or SME support sector is advantageous.
