Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Lead to oversee the delivery of mechanical packages on large-scale installation projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in mechanical engineering, proven leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering projects to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical projects, including data centers, and to contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

Open to SA and EU candidates

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Reporting to the Mechanical Project Manager and acting as the package owner for assigned scopes, such as chilled water, ventilation, plumbing, and heat rejection systems.

  • Leading the day-to-day delivery of the package to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets, while managing internal supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.

  • Conducting toolbox talks, verifying RAMS/permits, and implementing the package ITP/ITRs to enforce a “Right First Time” culture.

  • Reviewing IFC/design drawings and specifications, raising and tracking RFIs and technical queries, and driving BIM/model coordination to resolve clashes and produce construction/fabrication drawings.

  • Ensuring builders’ works, penetrations, supports, and setting-out are complete ahead of installation, maintaining redlines, and ensuring timely as-builts.

  • Developing and managing rolling 3–6 week lookaheads aligned to the baseline schedule, tracking WBS % complete, labor, material take-offs, and EMR, and reporting variances with recovery actions.

  • Supporting commercial controls with the Project QS, including valuations, variations/claims, notifications, and change logs, while maintaining photographic and QA evidence.

  • Contributing to tender packages, technical assessments, and planning for long-lead equipment and field-need dates.

  • Coordinating daily with CSA/Electrical/ICT/Fire teams to secure work fronts and interfaces, verifying workmanship and compliance with codes/specifications, and managing quality walkdowns.

  • Administering the snagging/punch process and driving real-time closure.

  • Planning and executing pressure tests, flushing/cleanliness, chemical treatment, and valve proving, as well as coordinating functional performance tests and BMS/EPMS integration.

  • Compiling O&M inputs, QA/Safety File entries, and close-out documentation to achieve area/system handover readiness.

  • Operating within the ISO 19650-aligned CDE, managing transmittals, submittals, approvals, and version control, and utilizing model-based coordination and short-interval planning dashboards.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 3-5 years of experience delivering mechanical packages on large installation projects, with mission-critical/data center experience being advantageous.

  • Demonstrated leadership of subcontractors and field teams, with excellent communication and coordination skills.

  • Technical competence across HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, plumbing & drainage systems, and BMS interfaces.

  • Proven experience with testing and commissioning workflows and close-out documentation.

  • Proficiency in BIM/CAD and CDE-based document control, along with strong IT skills (e.g., Excel, scheduling tools).

Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience delivering projects to EN 50600 standards, with familiarity in PUE/WUE targets and energy KPI reporting.

  • Hands-on experience with digital delivery using ISO 19650 CDE workflows and 4D planning.

  • Knowledge of district heat reuse or waste-heat offtake solutions in compliance with EnEfG.

  • Expertise in commissioning high-density cooling systems (e.g., in-row, rear-door, liquid cooling) and integration with facility monitoring.

  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in supply-chain resilience planning for long-lead mechanical equipment (e.g., chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, pumps).

  • Familiarity with refrigeration and cooling safety standards (EN 378).

  • Proficiency in the German language is advantageous.

If you are a results-driven professional with a passion for excellence in mechanical engineering, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
