Overview

We are on the hunt for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Accountant to join our client's Finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, supporting the management of VAT/GST compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, EU, and the rest of the world. Reporting to the Head of Tax, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely compliance with indirect tax obligations while contributing to process improvements and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

As an Indirect Tax Accountant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and submitting complex monthly and quarterly VAT returns, ESL, Intrastat, and other statutory returns for multiple jurisdictions

  • Conducting transaction-level VAT analysis and identifying compliance risks

  • Reconciling tax return calculations and payments with ERP system data

  • Ensuring timely and accurate payment of VAT liabilities in collaboration with other finance teams such as Accounts Payable and Treasury

  • Supporting internal and external audits related to VAT/GST

  • Collaborating with other teams to ensure accurate maintenance of customer master data for VAT reporting purposes

  • Contributing to continuous process improvements to enhance automation and compliance efficiencies

  • Providing training to non-Tax colleagues on the basics of indirect tax

  • Assisting the Indirect Tax Manager with ad hoc projects and tasks as required

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in B.Com with Accounting and Tax (NQF 7 qualification)

  • 3-4 years of experience in VAT/GST compliance roles, with exposure to EU VAT frameworks and regulations

  • Experience working within a large multinational corporation (MNC) is advantageous

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently under pressure, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving

  • Excellent planning and administrative skills to manage priorities and meet deadlines

  • A curious mindset with a passion for identifying and resolving issues

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing VAT/GST returns and ensuring compliance with local regulations

  • Collaborating with internal teams to ensure accurate data for tax reporting

  • Reconciling financial data and ensuring accurate tax payments

  • Supporting audits and addressing queries from tax authorities

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing solutions

  • Providing training and guidance to non-Tax colleagues to enhance compliance across the organization
