Overview
We are searching for a highly motivated and experienced Sales Manager to join our client's team in Bryanston, Johannesburg. This role focuses on the carrier business segment, specifically in data transfer and network services, with a geographical scope primarily within South Africa and neighboring countries. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving sales strategies, managing customer relationships, and exploring new business opportunities in the wholesale telecom market. This is a permanent position offering a competitive remuneration package, including basic salary, medical aid, provident fund, car allowance, and fuel.
Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Generation: Represent the company’s brand to major carrier players in Southern Africa, including MTN, Vodacom, Liquid, and Telkom. Manage client relationships, acquire RFP invitations, present competitive solutions, and close deals. Focus on business scopes such as capacity, IP Transit, IP-VPN, Internet, Colocation, Roaming, and Mobile services (excluding voice trading) in the MEA region
Business Development: Identify and develop new carrier-to-carrier sales opportunities by networking and showcasing the company’s services and capabilities. Build strong relationships with target clients
Relationship Management: Serve as the primary contact point for carrier partners/clients. Organize and participate in commercial events and social interactions to strengthen partnerships
Market Strategy: Conduct regular market research to provide intelligence for pricing strategies. Collaborate with internal departments to position products effectively and meet customer needs
Compliance: Manage contracts with carrier partners/clients, ensuring adherence to internal sales processes and company policies. Prepare detailed reports for supervisors and senior management
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field from a reputable university. Additional certifications or sales training are advantageous
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of sales experience in the telecom industry, with at least 5 years in the carrier or wholesale telecom market
Strong understanding of the wholesale telecom market in the Southern Africa region
Proven leadership and coaching skills
Techno-commercial expertise, including the ability to understand technical products and their commercial implications
Proficiency in account management, sales strategies (hunting and farming), and financial concepts such as P&L statements, GP, and EBITDA
Familiarity with local tax regulations and policies in the region
Skills:
Solid understanding of telecommunication networks and emerging technologies such as IoT, 5G, FTTx, cloud, data centers, and IP
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination skills
High level of integrity, responsibility, and a proactive attitude
Ability to travel 25-50% of the time locally and internationally
Day-to-Day
Engage with carrier clients to present solutions and negotiate contracts
Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of customer requirements
Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to clients and senior management
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders through regular interactions and events
Travel locally and internationally to meet clients and explore new business opportunities
