Overview
We are searching for a Business Development Manager to join our client's dynamic team. With over two decades of experience in the energy sector, our client has established itself as a leading independent power producer, focusing on renewable energy and energy transition projects across Africa. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, structuring, and execution of innovative energy projects, with a particular focus on South Africa and the Southern African region.
Responsibilities
Assessing the feasibility and attractiveness of project opportunities, including greenfield projects and acquisitions.
Leading the development, structuring, and execution of renewable energy projects from conception to financial close.
Managing project coordination across internal teams and external advisors, including engineering, legal, financial, and environmental specialists.
Preparing and submitting bids for competitive tenders, ensuring optimal project structuring and compliance with tender requirements.
Securing necessary permits and consents for project development, construction, and operation.
Negotiating and managing contracts with consultants, landowners, developers, lenders, and contractors.
Conducting due diligence and financial analysis, including reviewing financial models and key project inputs.
Structuring and negotiating equity investment agreements, project documents, and financing agreements.
Developing and managing project budgets and schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
Preparing and presenting investment committee and board approval memorandums.
Conducting market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive dynamics, and providing strategic recommendations.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to promote the organization’s brand and objectives.
Qualifications
A minimum undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical), Economics, Finance, or Science.
Advanced qualifications such as a Master’s Degree in Energy or Infrastructure Development, or an MBA with a focus on energy or project finance, are preferred.
At least 6 years of experience in energy infrastructure development, with a focus on renewable energy projects.
Proven track record in developing projects through critical milestones, including structuring and bidding in competitive tenders.
In-depth knowledge of solar PV and wind energy technologies, with experience in the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Program (REIPPP) or corporate PPAs.
Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid projects is a strong advantage.
Fluency in English and the ability to travel occasionally within Africa and internationally.
