Overview
We’re hiring a highly skilled and motivated Compliance Officer to join our client’s team! This permanent role plays a key part in their Legal and Compliance department, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and promoting a strong culture of compliance. The position is based in Bellville, Western Cape, with some flexibility for remote work.
Responsibilities
As a Compliance Officer, you will:
Implement the compliance strategy in alignment with the compliance monitoring plan.
Monitor and interpret new regulatory mandates, ensuring timely updates to compliance policies.
Design and deliver compliance training and educational programmes, including induction sessions for new employees.
Provide expert advice on compliance with applicable laws and regulations to ensure adherence.
Assess the impact of regulatory developments on business operations and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance.
Conduct compliance monitoring reviews and audits as per the audit schedule and ad hoc requirements.
Manage regulatory compliance breach processes, including identification, analysis, resolution, and escalation.
Contribute to statutory projects and monitor their implementation.
Create awareness and provide guidance on new compliance requirements.
Support stakeholders in identifying compliance risks and recommending mitigating actions.
Prepare and submit statutory applications to regulatory and supervisory bodies.
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Deliver compliance reports within agreed timeframes.
Review critical business policies and recommend improvements from a regulatory compliance perspective.
Maintain compliance registers and ensure adherence to record-keeping legislation.
Assist with FAIS and FICA compliance matters.
Draft compliance communications and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain and apply for CMS accreditation with the regulator.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education
Matric Certificate (Essential)
Degree in Commercial, Risk Management, Audit, Legal, Business, or a related field (Essential)
Postgraduate qualification in Compliance Management (Desirable)
Legal qualification (Desirable)
Licensing or Registration
Registered as a licensed compliance officer with the FSCA (Essential)
Registered with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa (Desirable)
Knowledge
Strong understanding of legislation relevant to the health, insurance, and financial services sectors.
Familiarity with compliance risk management frameworks.
Knowledge of regulations such as FAIS, FICA, POPIA, LTIA, Short-Term Insurance Act, Medical Schemes Act, COFI, and FSCR.
Understanding of typical products offered in the insurance and financial services industry.
Experience
2-5 years of compliance-related experience (Essential).
Experience in the insurance and financial services industry (Preferred).
