Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer on behalf of our client. This exciting role offers the chance to build scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure for a cutting-edge payment platform. The position reports directly to the VP of Engineering and offers a hybrid setup based in the Western Cape.

Responsibilities

As a DevOps Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and managing scalable, secure AWS infrastructure using Terraform

  • Building and maintaining reliable CI/CD pipelines for fast and safe deployments

  • Monitoring system health and ensuring high uptime through observability best practices

  • Partnering with engineers to optimize development workflows and release processes

  • Leading incident response efforts and continuously improving reliability practices

  • Ensuring infrastructure meets compliance, security, and regulatory standards

  • Maintaining and improving logging, monitoring, and alerting systems across environments

  • Documenting architecture decisions and operational processes clearly and accessibly

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer

  • Extensive experience with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code

  • Proficiency in creating modular CI/CD workflows, ideally using GitHub Actions

  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS

  • Strong understanding of secure networking principles and security-first architecture

  • Solid experience with Docker and Kubernetes (Helm experience is a plus)

  • Expertise in managing Linux servers and scripting with Bash or Python

  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Graylog, or Opensearch

  • Experience managing incidents and monitoring uptime with tools like PagerDuty

  • A practical, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to write concise technical documentation

  • Strong communication skills to articulate decisions and rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Day-to-Day

Your daily activities will include:

  • Collaborating with the engineering team to design and implement infrastructure solutions

  • Monitoring and maintaining system performance to ensure reliability and scalability

  • Automating deployment processes to streamline development workflows

  • Responding to and resolving incidents to minimize downtime and improve system resilience

  • Conducting regular reviews of infrastructure to ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards

  • Documenting processes and sharing knowledge with the team to foster continuous improvement
