Overview
The Finance Project Manager will lead the end-to-end delivery of complex finance and investment-related projects across the business. This includes system implementations, finance transformation initiatives, regulatory reporting changes, investment data projects, operating-model redesign, and integration of investment platforms across Front, Middle, and Back Office.
This senior role requires exceptional stakeholder engagement, the ability to operate confidently within investment management environments, and the capability to drive delivery under pressure while navigating complexity.
Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Governance
Lead the full lifecycle of finance and investment projects, ensuring delivery within agreed scope, quality, timelines, and budget.
Coordinate cross-functional teams, including Business, Finance, Investment Operations, Technology, and external vendors, for seamless execution.
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, RAID logs, budgets, and governance documentation.
Provide transparent and aligned reporting to the Steering Committee and senior stakeholders.
Investment & Finance Domain Execution
Collaborate with Finance, Portfolio Management, Risk, Compliance, and Data teams to translate business requirements into actionable delivery plans.
Manage projects related to:
Finance transformation and process optimisation.
Investment product launches or changes (multi-asset, unit trust, linked products, alternatives).
Regulatory and reporting enhancements (IFRS, FSCA, CISCA, prudential reporting).
Investment data integration and quality improvement initiatives.
System migrations (e.g., PMS, OMS, IBOR/ABOR, finance ERP, data platforms).
Stakeholder Management
Engage with senior leaders across Finance, Investments, Operations, and Technology, often at exco/C-suite level.
Facilitate workshops, requirement sessions, UAT cycles, and operating model definitions.
Ensure alignment across cross-functional teams, resolving conflicts and managing competing priorities.
Risk, Issue & Dependency Management
Identify, document, and proactively manage project risks and issues.
Oversee internal and external dependencies, including third-party data providers, investment platforms, accounting systems, and custody/administration partners.
Drive mitigations, escalations, and structured decision-making processes.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
Direct Business Analysts, Finance SMEs, Technology resources, and vendor teams to achieve delivery outcomes.
Manage resource allocation, capacity, and performance across project streams.
Foster a collaborative and high-performance project culture.
Qualifications
Formal Project Management qualification (PMI, PMBOK, Prince2) is advantageous.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Investments, Commerce, Accounting, or Information Systems is beneficial.
Experience Requirements
8–12+ years of experience leading large-scale finance or investment projects in financial services.
Strong background in investment management, asset management, wealth management, or investment operations.
Demonstrated experience with:
Finance transformation projects.
Investment system migrations or integrations (e.g., SAP/Oracle finance modules).
Regulatory and compliance change programmes.
Multi-entity and multi-portfolio environments.
Proven success in leading cross-functional delivery teams and managing external vendors.
Experience with high-budget, business-critical projects, ideally involving technology and finance components.
