We are searching for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Renewable Energy Engineer to join our client's dynamic team in Cape Town, Western Cape. Responsibilities

As a Senior Renewable Energy Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

Technical Due Diligence
  • Leading and managing technical due diligence assignments, guiding clients through the financial close phase.

  • Assessing and mitigating technical risks across project CAPEX, OPEX, and revenue forecasts.

  • Coordinating with legal, insurance, and financial advisors to ensure comprehensive project evaluations.

  • Reviewing and negotiating key contracts, including EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind Turbine Generator Supply agreements for solar and wind projects.

Owner’s Engineer Services
  • Overseeing project feasibility studies, providing detailed technical input from preliminary assessments to full economic analysis.

  • Monitoring construction progress to ensure alignment with design specifications and industry best practices.

  • Managing EPC and O&M tender preparations, participating in contract negotiations, and guiding clients through the award process.

  • Conducting on-site project acceptance testing and commissioning, resolving issues, and ensuring project milestones are met.

  • Supporting clients during the operational period to optimize performance and ensure long-term asset integrity.

Additional Tasks
  • Conducting thorough technical reviews of project permits, designs, and resource assessments.

  • Leading and documenting technical inspections during construction and commissioning phases.

  • Proposing strategies for risk mitigation, leveraging comprehensive knowledge of renewable energy project lifecycles.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent, with specialized training or experience in renewable energy (wind and/or solar).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy, with at least 3-5 years in wind and/or solar consultancy.

  • Proven expertise as both a Lender's and Owner's Technical Advisor, particularly in PV EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind Turbine contracts.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and execute Owner's Engineer responsibilities, including design review, project management, and technical advisory throughout development, construction, and operational phases.

  • Hands-on experience with construction monitoring, inspections, and acceptance testing.

  • Familiarity with feasibility studies and resource assessments for solar and wind projects.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Excellent project management skills, capable of coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.

  • Proficiency in technical software tools relevant to TDD and OE roles.

  • High level of organization and attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Willingness to travel for short assignments across Africa.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of French and/or Portuguese is advantageous.

Day-to-Day

Your daily activities will involve:

  • Collaborating with clients to provide expert technical advice and project oversight.

  • Conducting detailed technical reviews and assessments to ensure project success.

  • Managing project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.

  • Traveling to project sites for inspections, testing, and client meetings.

  • Preparing comprehensive reports and documentation to support project milestones.
